Bataville

Bataville is a unique site in France, in the heart of the "Pays des Etangs", within the Lorraine Regional Natural Park, known for the diversity of its environments: ponds, forests, meadows, wetlands, the Marne-Rhine canal...

Bataville is a factory-city-garden complex, built in the 1930s, in the Bauhaus movement, by the entrepreneur Tomas Bata, founder of the eponymous shoe brand. This paternalistic factory-city is one of the rare examples of workers' housing estates totally isolated from any urban area. It was equipped with numerous facilities for the well-being of its inhabitants (shops, church, swimming pool, stadium...). Employing up to 2700 people in 1939, the factory closed its doors in 2001.

Today, Bataville is still distinguished by its extraordinary heritage and by an omnipresent nature.
