Sarrebourg : A bimillenary city

The city of Sarrebourg has a very rich ancient history, which has left many traces that still remain in the city.

In the Middle Ages, the city went through a period of great prosperity, explaining why it was nicknamed “Sarrebourg, the Trading city” (Sarrebourg la Marchande).

Throughout history Sarrebourg has been annexed by the French, then by Germans and after the First Wold War definitively became French again.

The path of the Sarre : three possibilities

  • A walk around the pond : 2,50 km
  • A walk pond – Hoff district and back : 6 km
  • A  big walk : 14 km

 

Many battles took place around Sarrebourg, of which the battle of Sarrebourg from the 18th to the 20th August 1914.

Many vestiges from the world wars remain such as French and German necropolises, memorial monuments,…
