It's no coincidence that the first sonatas in the history of music were called "songs", or Canzone in Italian. While some of these early sonatas are often inspired by a vocal form, others quickly plunge us into the exploration of a 'new world', in which inventiveness, virtuosity and innovation are the watchwords. The soloists of Les Traversées Baroques make marvellous use of these works, which are as whimsical as they are theatrical! On the programme: works by Giovanni Paolo Cima, Biagio Marini, Giovanni Battista Fontana, Dario Castello, Johann Heinrich Schmelzer and Johann Rosenmüller.
